Girls First Lacrosse Game

Ashley and Megan played in their first lacrosse game this weekend. They are on the same team and they did great. Both of them got the ball a few times. Megan was on attack and Ashley was defense. I missed their game because I was in Alaska, but I'm excited for the next one.

Heading Home from Karluk, AK

Fishing was fun. Weather was average. It was sunny one day, overcast most days, and it rained a couple too. Overcast is fairly normal in Alaska. We limited out on fish most days, but some days were less than stellar.

I caught 7 different species of fish: coho, sockeye, chum, humpy, halibut, skate, and dolly varden. Some guys caught some steelhead too which was cool.

We also saw grizzlies, bald eagles, golden eagle, fox, mountain goats, some seals and sea lions. Alaska is a wild place. I don't think I could leave here, but fun to visit. Here are some pics of the Aluit village where we stayed and a pic of the 50 caliber handgun that works a little better on bears than the pepper spray (and no, we didn't have to use it).

Surgery in Karluk, Alaska

It was a windy day here in Alaska. Tough when there are two guys in the boat and you are fly fishing in the wind. Layne Hinckley's cast got caught in the wind and Mike Fisk was the recipient. The hook was imbedded across his upper lip just below the nose. Luckily Hinckley came prepared with anesthesia and some surgical tubes. A quick prayer and a yank and Fisk was as good as new. No harm, no foul as they say.

1st Day Fishing in Alaska

Overcast day here, but that's normal in Kodiak Island. No grizzly bears today, but they're around. Limited out on salmon in a couple hours so we went into the ocean with our skiffs for halibut. Here's a few pics:

The Red Rocks above St. George

Just down with the folks for the night in St. George. Brought Britney and Logan down with me. Danielle, Rosabelle, and Sunny came too. We decided to let the kids spend some energy so we climbed the red rocks above St. George.
